According to their website, The Coal Museum was founded in 1985 with the mission to serve and educate the public on the history of coal mining. The museum was built on land previously mined for coal and serves as an example how land can be put back to use after mining and reclamation.
Everyone is welcome to visit the Museum to learn about coal mining and its history. The building is full of memorabilia, artifacts, and books on coal mining. No admission is charged for entry; the Museum operates on donations. Organizations and groups are also welcome, and tours can be arranged in advance.
You can visit the museum Monday-Saturday from 9-4pm or Sunday from 12-4pm and tell AJ we sent you. You can also visit their website at http://www.lynnvillecoalmuseum.org
This weeks 'Where In Warrick' was fun...so let's tell the story for #FridayFacts.
As his headstone reads, Jesse Boon, was where the name Boonville originated on May 15, 1818. It was initially named "Boonsville" but was later simplified to what we now know as, Boonville.
Even more influential than Jesse was his son, Ratliff Boon, who served as the second governor of Indiana in 1844. Ratliff Boon is now pictured on the mural that is currently being painted near the Old National Bank on Main Street to preserve his legacy here in Boonville and Warrick County. If you would like to learn more about the early days of our area, we encourage you to visit the Warrick County Museum for more history and facts.

Happy 44th Birthday to the Warrick County Museum! Did you know that the museum was once the school house for Ella Williams School which operated from 1901-1976. At that time, the museum was organized for the purpose of collecting and preserving the heritage of Warrick County and opened as the museum on December 4, 1977. Stop by this weekend to experience their Festival of Trees or you can visit the museum on Tuesday's and Wednesday's from 1:00pm-4:00pm or on the 1st and 3rd Saturday's of the month from 11:00am-2:00pm.

We are honored to celebrate and give thanks to over 150 of our local Warrick County Veterans daily on the Old Courthouse lawn with the Warrick County War Memorial. But, today we recognize all veterans no matter where they reside because without them we wouldn’t have this beautiful place to call home. Thank you for your sacrifice. Happy Veteran’s Day!

Shopping small is not only about the retail stores, it's about local restaurants, coffee shops, and bakeries too! Pictured is just two of many options on the downtown square in Boonville, 2nd Street Bistro & Bakery and Yesterdaze Bar & Grill. They both make the perfect stop to grab a bite to eat or grab a coffee and dessert when you're out on the square shopping small. They say shopping does burn an average of 200 calories per hour, right? But who's counting??

Did you know Warrick County became a county in 1813 and was carved out of Knox County. Later Spencer, Posey, Perry, Crawford and Vanderburgh would be drawn from Warrick County creating the current county boundaries. The county was named for Captain Jacob Warrick a leader in the battle of Tippecanoe. Now you know!

Small Business Saturday is a shopping holiday held on the Saturday after Thanksgiving every year to promote and drive traffic to small and locally owned businesses. In preparation for National #SmallBusinessSaturday on November 27, we will be posting about our local small businesses so you can plan to shop.
First up is Miller's 5&10 on the square in Downtown Boonville. It was founded in 1958 by Leonard H. Miller and his son James W. (Jim “5 & 10”) Miller, Sr.
Miller’s Five and Dime strives to be your old fashioned shopping experience, specializing in hard to find items and other products that you don’t see everywhere. Our departments range from hardware to toys, so you can always find something you need.

The Harold Gunn Memorial Pavilion was created to honor a beloved community member and “buddy”, Harold Gunn. It has brought as much to the community as Harold did in his time. The pavilion and pocket park are on the grounds that used to be the old post office. If you would like more info on the park and pavilion follow the link in our bio. #INwarrick #visitwarrick
